Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated the hadith about the Hajj of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and described his (peace and blessings be upon him) stopping at Namirah: until, when the sun had passed the meridian, he ordered (his she-camel) al-Qaswa', and it was saddled for him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) mounted until he came to the middle of the valley and addressed the people. Then Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the adhan, then called the iqamah for Zuhr and he prayed; then he called the iqamah and he led the Asr prayer, and he did not pray anything between them.

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said concerning the Hajj of Islam that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to the standing place and gave the people the first sermon at Arafah. Then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the adhan. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began the second sermon. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished the sermon and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) the adhan, Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) called the iqamah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led Zuhr. Then he called the iqamah and he led the Asr prayer.
The Shaykh said: Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Abi Yahya is alone in narrating this detail. The hadith of Hatim bin Isma'il contains what indicates that he gave the sermon and then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the adhan, but it does not mention the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) beginning the second sermon. And Allah knows best.

Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that al-Hajjaj asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) how one should act at the standing place on the Day of Arafah. Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If you want the Sunnah, then pray early, in the midday heat, on the Day of Arafah. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: He has spoken the truth; they used to combine Zuhr and Asr on the Day of Arafah in accordance with the Sunnah. Ibn Shihab (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I said to Salim (may Allah have mercy on him): Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) do that? Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Do they follow anything other than his (peace and blessings be upon him) Sunnah?
