Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and recited the talbiyah for Hajj. We reached Makkah on the 4th of Dhu al-Hijjah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to perform the tawaf of the House of Allah and the sa'y of Safa and Marwah, and to make it an Umrah and come out of ihram, except for the one who had a sacrificial animal with him; and none of us had a sacrificial animal except the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came from Yemen, and he too had a sacrificial animal. He said: I have entered ihram with the same talbiyah that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made. We said: Shall we go to Mina while our private parts are dripping drops of semen? So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Had I known before about this matter of mine what I came to know later, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal; and were it not that I have the sacrificial animal with me, I would have come out of ihram." He said: Suraqah met him and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), is this specific to us or is it forever? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather it is forever." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reached Makkah while menstruating, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded her to perform all the rites of Hajj, but not to perform tawaf of the House of Allah and not to pray until she became pure. When they stopped at al-Batha', Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), will you all return having done Hajj and Umrah while I return with only Hajj? So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the son of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) to go with her to al-Tan'im, and she performed an Umrah in Dhu al-Hijjah after the days of Hajj.

Abu al-Zinad (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the jurists of Madinah used to say: Any woman who performs tawaf of the House of Allah and then goes to perform the circuits of Safa and Marwah, and then her menstruation begins, should perform the circuits of Safa and Marwah in that very state of menstruation. The same applies to one who loses his ablution after performing tawaf of the House of Allah and before performing the sa'y.
