Ya'la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was at al-Ji'ranah, wearing a cloak (jubbah) that had traces of khaluq (a saffron-based perfume) on it. He said: "What do you command me to do in my Umrah?" Then Allah Almighty sent down revelation upon him (peace and blessings be upon him). Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I greatly longed to see revelation descending upon him (peace and blessings be upon him). Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Would you like to see revelation coming down upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" I said: "Yes." So he lifted the cloth from one side, and I looked at him (peace and blessings be upon him), and a sound was coming from him (peace and blessings be upon him). When that state passed, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Where is the one who asked about Umrah? Let him take off this cloak and wash off the traces of khaluq, and do in Umrah just as you do in your Hajj."

Sayyiduna Ya'la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) to show me the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when the Qur'an was being revealed to him. Once we were on a journey when a man in a cloak stained with saffron came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "I have entered ihram for Umrah, and the people mock me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent, and revelation came down upon him (he mentioned the whole hadith). Then he said: "Where is the one who asked?" The man stood up, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take this cloak off yourself, and whatever you do in Hajj after entering ihram, do the same in Umrah."
Abd al-Malik shortened its chain and did not mention Safwan bin Ya'la in it.
