Ubayd bin Jurayj (may Allah have mercy on him) said that he said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): "O Abu Abd al-Rahman! I have seen you doing four things that none of your companions does." He asked: "What are they, Ibn Jurayj?" So he mentioned the whole matter, which included: "I have seen that when you are in Makkah, the people begin the talbiyah as soon as they see the new moon, but you do not say it until the Day of Tarwiyah comes." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "As for saying the talbiyah, I did not hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say the talbiyah until his mount set off with him."
