أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلْمَانَ الْفَقِيهُ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّقَاشِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَسْلَمَ إِلَى قَوْمِهِ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ، فَقَالَ: " مُرْهُمْ فَلْيَصُومُوا هَذَا الْيَوْمَ "، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا أَرَانِي آتِيهِمْ حَتَّى يَطْعَمُوا، قَالَ: " مَنْ طَعِمَ مِنْهُمْ فَلْيَصُمْ بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِهِ " رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَاصِمٍ، وَأَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ أَنَّهُ أَمَرَ بِالْقَضَاءِ، وَذَلِكَ فِيمَا.
Sayyiduna Salamah bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a man from the tribe of Aslam to his people on the day of Ashura and said: "Order them to fast this day." He said: O Messenger of Allah! Tell me, what if they have already eaten? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever among them has eaten, let him fast the rest of the day."
Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded it in his Sahih, and it has been narrated in a hadith that he ordered it to be made up.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُقْرِئُ، أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَسْلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ، أَنَّ أَسْلَمَ أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ، فَقَالَ: " صُمْتُمْ يَوْمَكُمْ هَذَا؟ " قَالُوا: لَا، قَالَ: " فَأَتِمُّوا بَقِيَّةَ يَوْمِكُمْ وَاقْضُوهُ " رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ فِي السُّنَنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمِنْهَالِ. وَكَذَلِكَ رَوَاهُ أَبُو قِلَابَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمِنْهَالِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ وَوَقَعَ ذَلِكَ فِي بَعْضِ النُّسَخِ سَعِيدٌ، وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ أَيْضًا سَعِيدٌ فَخَالَفَ شُعْبَةَ فِي الْإِسْنَادِ وَالْمَتْنِ.
Abd al-Rahman bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his uncle that they came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Ashura. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Have you fasted this day of yours?" They said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Complete the fast for the rest of the day, and make it up."
