Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) rode a donkey on which there was a velvet cloth from Fadak, and he seated him behind himself. He (peace and blessings be upon him) went to visit Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) in his illness before the Battle of Badr. He (peace and blessings be upon him) went on until he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a gathering in which Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul was sitting; this was before he accepted Islam. In that gathering Muslims and polytheists were mixed together, and there were also idol worshippers and Jews, and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him) was also in it. When the dust raised by the donkey covered them, Abdullah bin Ubayy covered his nose, then he said: Do not raise dust on us. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) greeted them with salam and stopped. He dismounted from his mount, invited them to Allah, recited the Noble Qur'an to them, and narrated the whole hadith.
