Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), narrated that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came on a horse from his house at al-Sunh, dismounted and entered the mosque. He did not speak to the people, and went in to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and made straight for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who was covered with a striped Yemeni cloak. He uncovered his (peace and blessings be upon him) face, bent over him (peace and blessings be upon him), then kissed him and wept. Then he said: "May my father be ransomed for you! By Allah, Allah Almighty will never bring two deaths upon you; as for the death that Allah Almighty decreed for you, it has come to you (peace and blessings be upon him)."

Kharijah bin Zayd bin Thabit al-Ansari (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Sayyidah Umm al-Ala (may Allah be pleased with her), a woman of the Ansar who had given the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), informed him that the Ansar divided the Muhajirun among themselves by drawing lots, and Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) fell to our share. We lodged him in our house, and then he was afflicted with the illness in which he died. When he died, was washed and shrouded in three garments, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came in. I said: O Abu al-Sa'ib! May the mercy of Allah be upon you; I bear witness that Allah Almighty has honoured you. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How do you know that Allah has honoured him?" (I said:) May my father and mother be ransomed for you! Then whom will Allah Almighty honour? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for him, certainty (death) has come to him. By Allah! I too hope for good for him. Yet, by Allah! I do not know, even though I am the Messenger of Allah, what Allah Almighty will do with me." She said: I said: By Allah! I will never again declare anyone pure.

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When my father was killed at the battle of Uhud, I kept uncovering his face and weeping. The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (may Allah be pleased with them) were forbidding me from that, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not forbid me. My paternal aunt was weeping, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not weep" (or he said: "What makes you weep?") "The angels kept shading him with their wings until they raised him up."
