أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، أنبأ الرَّبِيعُ، أنبأ الشَّافِعِيُّ قَالَ: بَلَغَنِي أَنَّهُ قِيلَ لِسَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: أَلَا نَتَّخِذُ لَكَ شَيْئًا كَأَنَّهُ الصُّنْدُوقُ مِنَ الْخَشَبِ؟ فَقَالَ: " بَلِ اصْنَعُوا بِي مَا صَنَعْتُمْ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، انْصِبُوا عَلَيَّ اللَّبِنَ، وَأَهِيلُوا عَلَيَّ التُّرَابَ ".
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) informs us: It reached me that it was said to Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him): Shall we not have a wooden box made for you? He said: Do with me as was done with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): set up mud bricks over me, then pour earth on top.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْمِسْوَرِيُّ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، أَنَّ سَعْدَ بْنَ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ قَالَ فِي مَرَضِهِ الَّذِي هَلَكَ فِيهِ: " الْحَدُوا لِي لَحْدًا، وَانْصِبُوا عَلَيَّ اللَّبِنَ نَصْبًا، كَمَا صُنِعَ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ". رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَحْيَى.
It is narrated from Amir bin Sa'd that Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) said during the illness in which he died: Dig a lahd (niche grave) for me, then stand unbaked bricks upright over it, as was done with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
