Hisham bin Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father (may Allah have mercy on him), and he from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that the sun was eclipsed in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) stood for a long time, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed for a long time. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and stood for a long time, but shorter than the first. Then he bowed for a long time, but a little less than the first. Then he raised his head from bowing and prostrated. Then he did the same in the second rak'ah, then he concluded with the salam, and the sun had become bright. He (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the people; after praising and extolling Allah, he said: "The sun and the moon are not eclipsed because of anyone's death or life. When you see this, supplicate to Allah, proclaim the greatness of Allah, and give charity." Then he said: "O Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! By Allah, there is no one more jealous (ghayrah) than Allah that His male servant or His female servant should commit fornication." Then he said: "O Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much."

Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The sun was eclipsed in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so I went to Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) while she was praying. I said: "What is the matter with the people that they are praying (like this)?" Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) pointed with her head towards the sky. I said: "Is this a (special) sign?" She said: "Yes." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood for a very long time, until I was overcome by faintness. I took a small waterskin that was beside me and began pouring water on my head. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, the sun had become bright. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the people; he praised and extolled Allah, then said: "There is nothing that you have been promised but I have seen it in this place of mine, even Paradise and Hell. And it has been revealed to me that you will be tested in the graves with a trial like, or close to, the trial of the Dajjal (the False Messiah)." (Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "Each one of you will be brought and asked: 'What do you know about this man?' The believer, or the one with certainty, will say: 'He is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), he is the Messenger of Allah; he came to us with clear proofs and guidance, so we accepted what he said and obeyed him.' He will say this three times. Then it will be said to that believer: 'We knew that you believed in him, so sleep in peace.' And the hypocrite or the doubter will say: 'I do not know who he is; I heard the people saying something, so I said it too.'"

Tha'labah bin Ibad al-Abdi of Basrah attended a sermon of Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) one day. He said: One day, in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I and the boys of the Ansar were shooting at a target, when the sun, at the edge of the sky, was at the height of two or three spears, and the sun had lost its light. One of us said to his companion: "Come with us to the mosque. By Allah, this sun has brought about something new for the Ummah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." We went back towards the mosque. Suddenly the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also appeared, and we came upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) just as he (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to the people. The narrator said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) came forward and led us in prayer. He stood so long that he (peace and blessings be upon him) had never before made us stand so long, and his (peace and blessings be upon him) voice could not be heard. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) had us bow for a time longer than he ever had before. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) had us prostrate, so long that he had never before had us prostrate so long, and his (peace and blessings be upon him) voice could not be heard. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) did the same in the second rak'ah, and he remained sitting in the second rak'ah until the sun became bright. The narrator said: Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) concluded with the salam. He praised and extolled Allah and bore witness that there is no god but Allah and that he is His servant and Messenger. Then he said: "O people! I am a human being and I am the Messenger of Allah. I remind you of Allah: if you know that I have fallen short in conveying the messages of my Lord, then tell me, so that I may convey the messages of my Lord as they ought to be conveyed. And if you know that I have conveyed the messages of my Lord, then tell me." The narrator said: The people stood up and said: We bear witness that you have conveyed the messages of your Lord, sincerely advised your Ummah and fulfilled the duty that was upon you (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator said: Then they all fell silent. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "People think that this eclipse of the moon and the sun, and the disappearance of the stars from their rising places, happens because of the death of some great person among the people of the earth, yet they lie. Rather, these are among the signs of Allah by which Allah tests His servants, to see who repents to Him. By Allah, since I stood up for the prayer I have seen everything that you are going to meet in this world and in the Hereafter. And by Allah, the Hour will not be established until thirty liars come forth. The last of them will be the Dajjal, blind in the left eye."
"His eye will be like the eye of Abu Yahya, an old man of the Ansar. When he comes forth, he will claim that he is Allah. Whoever believes in him, affirms him and follows him, his earlier good deeds will not benefit him; and whoever rejects him and denies him will not be punished for his earlier bad deeds. He will prevail over the whole earth except the Haram and Bayt al-Maqdis, and the believers will gather in Bayt al-Maqdis. Then there will be severe earthquakes, and Allah will defeat him and his army, until, if someone is behind a wall or hiding behind a tree, that wall and tree will say: 'O believer! This disbeliever is hiding behind me, so kill him.'" The narrator said that he (the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)) said: "That will never happen until you see matters whose gravity grows in your hearts, and you ask one another: 'Did your Prophet mention anything of this to you?' And until mountains move from their fixed places; then after that comes death."
Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with his hand. Then I attended another sermon, and he mentioned this hadith again without putting anything before or after its place.
