Salim narrates from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood for prayer, he would raise his hands until they were level with his shoulders, then say the takbir while they were like that and bow; and when he wanted to straighten his back, he would raise his hands level with his shoulders, then say 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah' (Allah has heard the one who praised Him); then he would prostrate, but he would not raise his hands in the prostrations, and he would raise his hands whenever he said a takbir before the ruku', until his prayer was complete.
