Musa bin Yasar narrates from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman passed by him and the scent of perfume was coming from her. He said: O servant of the Compeller (al-Jabbar)! Are you going to the mosque? She said: Yes. He said: Is it for this that you have applied perfume? She said: Yes. He said: Go back and take a bath, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Any woman who goes to the mosque with the scent of perfume coming from her, Allah will not accept her prayer until she goes back and takes a bath."

Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not ride on a red saddle-cloth (urjuwan), nor do I wear yellow-dyed clothes, nor a shirt hemmed with silk." And al-Hasan pointed to the collar of his shirt. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the perfume of men is that which has scent but no colour, and the perfume of women is that which has colour but no scent."
Sa'id (may Allah have mercy on him) says: This (applies to) perfume when the woman goes out; but with her husband she may apply whatever perfume she wishes.
