Shu'ayb bin Ruzayq narrates from al-Hakam bin Hazn al-Kulafi (may Allah be pleased with him): We came to him, and he began narrating to us the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: We came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) as a delegation of nine or seven men. We asked his permission and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us permission. We went in to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and after greeting him with salam we said: O Messenger of Allah! We have come to visit you (peace and blessings be upon him) so that you may pray to Allah for us, or he said: so that you may pray for good for us. He (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for good for us, ordered that we be hosted as guests, and ordered some dates for us; and circumstances at that time were modest.
We stayed with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and during those days we attended the Friday prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood leaning on a bow or a staff. He (peace and blessings be upon him) praised and extolled Allah with pure and blessed words. Then he said: "O people! You will not be able to," or he said: "You will never be able to do everything you have been commanded, but stay on the right course, keep to moderation, and receive glad tidings."
