Ubaydullah bin Abi Rafi' says that Marwan bin al-Hakam appointed Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) as his deputy, and Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) led them in prayer. In the first rak'ah he recited Surah al-Jumu'ah, and in the second rak'ah "When the hypocrites come to you" [Surah al-Munafiqun: 1]. When Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) finished and left, I walked alongside him. I said: You recite two surahs which I heard Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) recite in the prayer. Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he too used to recite these two surahs.
