Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: In the Days of Ignorance I used to consider all people to be astray, that they were not on any religion and were worshippers of idols. I had heard reports about a man in Makkah, so I came to Makkah on my mount, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in hiding, and his people were bold against him (peace and blessings be upon him). I acted with caution until I came in to him (peace and blessings be upon him) in Makkah, and I asked: Who are you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am a Prophet." I said: What is a Prophet? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah has sent me as a Prophet." I said: With what has Allah sent you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "With joining the ties of kinship, breaking the idols, and that Allah alone be believed in and nothing be associated with Him." I said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): Who is with you (peace and blessings be upon him) on this religion? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A free man and a slave." Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: On that day Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) had believed in him (peace and blessings be upon him). I said: I too will follow you. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You cannot manage that at present. Do you not see my condition and the condition of the people? Go back to your home, and when you hear that I have prevailed, come to me." So I went back home, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah, while I, at home, kept asking people for news, until a group of the people of Madinah came. I said: What has this man who has come to Madinah done? They said: People are hastening to him; his people wanted to kill him, but they were not able to. Then I came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah and said: O Messenger of Allah, do you recognise me? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you not the one who met me in Makkah?" I said: Tell me of what Allah has taught you and of which I am ignorant; tell me about prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray the Subh prayer, then refrain from prayer while the sun is rising until it has risen high. When the sun rises, it rises between the two horns of the devil, and at that time the disbelievers prostrate to it. Then pray, for it is a prayer at which the angels are present, until the shadow is equal to a spear. Then refrain from prayer, for at that time Hell is stoked. When the shadow increases, pray, for this too is a prayer at which the angels are present, until you pray the Asr prayer. Then refrain from prayer until the sun sets, for the sun sets between the two horns of the devil and the disbelievers prostrate to it." I said: O Prophet of Allah, tell me about ablution (wudu). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Any man among you who brings his ablution water near, then rinses his mouth, draws water into his nose and blows it out, the sins of his nose, face and beard flow away with the water. Then he washes his hands up to and including the elbows, and the sins fall away from the fingertips of his hands. Then he wipes his head, and through the wiping the sins are removed from his hair with the water. Then he washes his feet up to and including the ankles, and the sins flow away from the tips of his toes. Then he stands and, in prayer, praises and extols Allah and glorifies Him as He deserves, and empties his heart for Allah, and he becomes as clean of his sins as if his mother had given birth to him that very day." Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith to Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: Look, you are saying that in a single sitting a man will be given all this? Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Abu Umamah, I have grown old, my bones have become weak, and my death has drawn near; what need do I have to lie about Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)? If I had not heard it from him (peace and blessings be upon him) once, twice, but up to seven times, I would never have narrated it; I have heard this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) many times.
(b) Al-Nadr bin Muhammad mentioned some additional words: When a person blows the water out of his nose, all the faults of his nose and face come out with the water; then when he washes his face as Allah has commanded, his faults come out from the edges of his face and beard.

Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, in which part of the night is (supplication) most heard? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In the last part of the night. Pray as much as you wish, for the angels are present at that prayer, until the Subh prayer is prayed. Then refrain from prayer while the sun is rising, until the sun has risen the height of one or two spears; it rises between the two horns of the devil, and the disbelievers prostrate to it. Then pray as much as you wish, for the angels are present at that prayer, until the shadow is equal to a spear. Then refrain from prayer, for at that time Hell is stoked and its gates are opened. When the sun has declined, pray as much as you wish; the angels are present at this prayer as well, until you pray the Asr prayer. Then refrain from prayer until the sun sets, for it sets between the two horns of the devil and the disbelievers prostrate to it." The narrator said: Then he narrated a long hadith.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Sayyiduna Safwan bin al-Mu'attal (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): O Prophet of Allah, I have come to ask you about a matter that you know and I do not know: are there times in the night and the day in which prayer is forbidden? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes. When you have prayed the Fajr prayer, leave prayer until the sun rises, for it rises between the two horns of the devil. This is a prayer at which the angels are present, and it is accepted. Then, when the sun is high over your head like a spear, refrain from prayer, for at that time Hell is stoked and the gates of Hell are opened, until the sun moves to your right side. When the sun has declined, pray; the angels are present at that too, until you have prayed the Asr prayer. Then leave prayer until the sun sets."
