Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Sayyiduna Safwan bin al-Mu'attal (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): O Prophet of Allah, I have come to ask you about a matter that you know and I do not know: are there times in the night and the day in which prayer is forbidden? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes. When you have prayed the Fajr prayer, leave prayer until the sun rises, for it rises between the two horns of the devil. This is a prayer at which the angels are present, and it is accepted. Then, when the sun is high over your head like a spear, refrain from prayer, for at that time Hell is stoked and the gates of Hell are opened, until the sun moves to your right side. When the sun has declined, pray; the angels are present at that too, until you have prayed the Asr prayer. Then leave prayer until the sun sets."
