Sayyidah Lubabah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Sayyiduna al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) urinated in the lap of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I said: Give me the garment so that I may wash it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The urine of a baby girl is washed, and water is sprinkled over the urine of a baby boy."

Sayyidah Umm al-Fadl (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the narrator mentioned a story, in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The urine of a baby girl should be washed, and the urine of a baby boy should be sprinkled."

Abu al-Samh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I used to serve the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to take a bath, he would say: "Turn your back to me," so I would turn my back and screen him. Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) or Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) was brought, and he urinated on his (peace and blessings be upon him) chest. I came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) to wash it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The urine of a baby girl should be washed, and the urine of a baby boy should be sprinkled."
(b) Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi (may Allah have mercy on him) that: "Sprinkle it, for the urine of a baby girl is to be washed and the urine of a baby boy is to be sprinkled."

Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: This applies as long as they have not started eating food; once they start eating food, the urine of both is to be washed.

Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The urine of a baby girl should be washed, and the urine of a baby boy should be sprinkled, as long as he has not started eating food."
Abu Isa (al-Tirmidhi) said: I asked al-Bukhari about this hadith, and he said: Sa'id bin Abi Arubah does not narrate it as marfu' (from the Prophet), while Hisham al-Dastuwa'i narrates it as marfu', and he is a hafiz. However, others besides Mu'adh bin Hisham narrated it from Hisham as mursal.

Ibn Abi al-Aswad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The urine of a baby boy is to be sprinkled, and the urine of a baby girl is to be washed."

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting, and Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both), or one of them, was sitting in his (peace and blessings be upon him) lap, and he urinated. I stood up to wash it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The urine of a baby boy is to be sprinkled, and the urine of a baby girl is to be washed."
This hadith is authentic from Umm Salamah as her own practice.

Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his mother that she saw Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her): she would sprinkle water over the urine of a nursing baby boy, and when he started eating food she would wash it, and she used to wash the urine of a baby girl.
The narrated hadiths on the difference between the urine of a baby boy and a baby girl in this chapter become strong when combined with one another. It seems they were not established in the view of Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) when he said: "No difference between the urine of a boy and a girl is clear to me from the established Sunnah." Al-Bukhari and Muslim held a similar view, since they did not include any of them in their two books, except that al-Bukhari considered the hadith of Abu al-Samh good and judged Hisham correct in narrating the hadith of Ali as marfu'. Along with that, the practice of Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) is authentically reported from her, in addition to the established hadiths mentioned earlier on sprinkling over a baby boy's urine.
