Sulayman bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: I have not seen anyone whose prayer resembled the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) more than so-and-so, who was the governor of the people of Madinah. Sulayman (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I prayed behind him; he would lengthen the first two rak'ahs of Zuhr and shorten the last two. He would also shorten the Asr prayer; in the first two rak'ahs of Maghrib he would recite from the qisar al-mufassal (the short surahs of the Mufassal); in the first two rak'ahs of Isha he would recite from the awsat al-mufassal (the medium surahs of the Mufassal); and in the Fajr prayer he would recite from the tiwal al-mufassal (the long surahs of the Mufassal).
Al-Dahhak (may Allah have mercy on him) says: A man who heard Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me that he said: I have not seen anyone whose prayer resembled the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) more than this young man, by whom he meant Umar bin Abd al-Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him). Al-Dahhak (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I also prayed behind him, and he prayed just as Sulayman bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) described above.

Amr bin Shu'ayb narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: There is no surah of the Mufassal, short or long, that I did not hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recite while leading the people in the obligatory prayers.
