Sayyiduna al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) to the people of Yemen to invite them to Islam, but they did not accept the invitation. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and ordered him: "Send Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) back, and those with him as well, except any man who is with Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) and would like to join Ali (may Allah be pleased with him); let him join you." Al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was among those who joined Ali's (may Allah be pleased with him) army. When we were drawing near the people, they came out towards us. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) led us in prayer, and we formed a single row. Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) went forward from among us and read out the letter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to those people. Hamdan, every one of them, accepted Islam. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (with the good news) of their accepting Islam. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) read it himself, he fell into prostration before Allah. Then he raised his head from the prostration and said: "Peace be upon Hamdan, peace be upon Hamdan."
(b) Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated the opening part of this hadith; he did not relate the complete narration, and the prostration of gratitude in the complete hadith is sahih (authentic) according to his conditions.

It is narrated from Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Ka'b bin Malik that Abdullah bin Ka'b, who was the one among Ka'b's sons who led him about when he became blind, said: I heard Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate his story of staying behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Battle of Tabuk. He narrates the long hadith and says that fifty days had been completed since the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had ordered our boycott. On the morning of the fiftieth night, when I had prayed the Fajr prayer and was on the roof of one of our houses, sitting in the state that Allah Almighty has mentioned about us, "their own souls were straitened for them, and the earth, despite all its vastness, was straitened for them" [Surah al-Tawbah: 118], I heard a caller who had climbed Mount Sal' crying out: O Ka'b bin Malik! Rejoice at good news. I fell down in prostration right there, and I understood that relief had come for me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had announced Allah's acceptance of our repentance when he prayed the Fajr prayer. People began giving us good news and also went to my two companions, and a man came to me with good news. A man from the tribe of Aslam ran and reached the top of the mountain, and the voice reached me faster than the horse. When the man whose voice of good news I had heard came to me, I took off both the garments I was wearing and put them on the one who gave me the good news. By Allah! On that day I owned nothing besides those two garments. Then I borrowed two garments from someone, put them on and came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he mentioned the complete hadith.

Amir bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his father: We were travelling with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from Makkah to Madinah. When he reached the place Azwar, he dismounted, raised his hands and supplicated before Allah for a while. Then he fell into prostration and remained in prostration for a long time; then he stood up and raised his hands for a while. After that he fell into prostration again. Ahmad mentioned this three times. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I asked my Lord and interceded for my Ummah, and Allah accepted the intercession for a third of my Ummah, so I fell into prostration before my Lord. When I raised my head and asked Allah for intercession for my Ummah, Allah again gave me a third of the Ummah. I fell into prostration before my Lord again. Then I stood up and asked my Lord for the sake of my Ummah, and Allah granted me the other third, and I fell into prostration before my Lord in gratitude."

Sayyiduna Abdul-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I entered the mosque and saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) going out of the mosque, so I began walking behind him (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was not aware of me until he (peace and blessings be upon him) entered a garden of date palms. He (peace and blessings be upon him) faced the qiblah and prostrated, and made a very long prostration, while I was standing behind him (peace and blessings be upon him), until I thought that perhaps Allah Almighty had taken his (peace and blessings be upon him) soul. I walked up to him, lowered my head and began looking at his (peace and blessings be upon him) face. He (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head and said: "O Abdul-Rahman! What is the matter with you?" I said: O Messenger of Allah! When you prolonged the prostration, I feared that Allah might have taken your (peace and blessings be upon him) life, so I came to see. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you saw me entering the garden, at that time I met Jibril (peace be upon him), and he said: I give you (peace and blessings be upon him) the good news that Allah Almighty says: Whoever sends salam upon you (peace and blessings be upon him), I send peace upon him, and whoever sends salah (blessings) upon you (peace and blessings be upon him), I send mercy upon him."

It is narrated from Abdul-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I met Jibril (peace be upon him), and giving me good news he said that your Lord says: Whoever sends salah (blessings) upon you, I send down mercy upon him, and whoever sends salam upon you, I send peace upon him," so I performed a prostration of gratitude before Allah.

This is munqati' (its chain is broken), and it is the narration of Jabir al-Ju'fi; however, it has a supporting narration (shahid) through another route.

Malik bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was with Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: Search for al-Mukhdaj. The people could not find him anywhere, so sweat began to run from the forehead (of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)), and he was saying: By Allah! I have neither lied nor been lied to. Then they pulled him out by his shins, and he (may Allah be pleased with him) performed a prostration of gratitude.
