أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بِشْرَانَ الْعَدْلُ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ ⦗٤٢٦⦘ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا عَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدُّورِيُّ، ثنا قَبِيصَةُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ: كَانَ أَمِيرٌ مِنَ الْأُمَرَاءِ يُؤَخِّرُ الصَّلَاةَ فَسَأَلْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي، فَقَالَ: سَأَلْتُ خَلِيلِي، يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي فَقَالَ: " صَلِّ الصَّلَاةَ لِمِيقَاتِهَا فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَ فَصَلِّ مَعَهُمْ وَلَا تَقُلْ إِنِّي قَدْ صَلَّيْتُ فَلَنْ أُصَلِّيَ مَعَهُمْ ".
Abdullah bin al-Samit (may Allah have mercy on him) said: One of the rulers used to delay the prayer. I asked Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), and he struck my thigh and said: I asked my close friend, meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) struck my thigh and said: "Offer the prayer at its proper time; then, if you find the people praying, pray with them as well, and do not say: I have already prayed, so I will not pray with you."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ هُوَ الْأَصَمُّ، أنبأ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَيُّوبُ السَّخْتِيَانِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ قَالَ: أَخَّرَ عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الصَّلَاةَ فَلَقِيتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ الصَّامِتِ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي وَقَالَ: سَأَلْتُ خَلِيلِي أَبَا ذَرٍّ فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي: وَقَالَ: سَأَلْتُ خَلِيلِي، يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي فَقَالَ: " صَلِّ الصَّلَاةَ لِمِيقَاتِهَا فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَ فَصَلِّ مَعَهُمْ وَلَا تَقُلْ إِنِّي قَدْ صَلَّيْتُ فَلَا أُصَلِّي " أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عُلَيَّةَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ.
Abu al-Aliyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Ubaydullah bin Ziyad (may Allah have mercy on him) delayed the prayer, so I met Abdullah bin al-Samit (may Allah have mercy on him). He struck my thigh and said: I put this question to my close friend Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: I asked my close friend, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Offer the prayer at its proper time; if you find the congregation, pray with them, and do not say: I have already prayed, so I will not pray now."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي وَأَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْمُزَكِّي قَالُوا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ: قُرِئَ عَلَى ابْنِ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَكَ مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي الدِّيلِ يُقَالُ لَهُ بُسْرُ بْنُ مِحْجَنٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ مِحْجَنٍ أَنَّهُ كَانَ جَالِسًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأُذِّنَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّى ثُمَّ رَجَعَ وَمِحْجَنٌ فِي مَجْلِسِهِ كَمَا هُوَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ مَعَ النَّاسِ أَلَسْتَ بِرَجُلٍ مُسْلِمٍ؟ " قَالَ: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَلَكِنِّي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَدْ كُنْتُ صَلَّيْتُ فِي أَهْلِي قَالَ: " فَإِذَا جِئْتَ فَصَلِّ مَعَ النَّاسِ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ قَدْ صَلَّيْتَ ".
Busr bin Mihjan (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father that he was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when the adhan for the prayer was called. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and prayed. Then he came back, and Sayyiduna Mihjan (may Allah be pleased with him) was still sitting in the gathering just as he had been. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "What prevented you from praying with the people? Are you not a Muslim?" He said: Certainly, O Messenger of Allah! But I had already prayed at home. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you come, pray with the people, even if you have already prayed."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ، أنبأ الرَّبِيعُ، أنبأ الشَّافِعِيُّ، أنبأ مَالِكٌ، فَذَكَرَهُ بِمِثْلِهِ.
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates this same hadith with his own chain.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ حَفْصٍ الْمُقْرِئُ ابْنِ الْحَمَامِيِّ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلْمَانَ الْفَقِيهُ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: صَلَّيْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْفَجْرَ بِمِنًى فَجَاءَ رَجُلَانِ حَتَّى وَقَفَا عَلَى رَوَاحِلِهِمَا فَأَمَرَ بِهِمَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَجِيءَ بِهِمَا تَرْعَدُ فَرَائِصُهُمَا، فَقَالَ لَهُمَا: " مَا مَنَعَكُمَا أَنْ تُصَلِّيَا مَعَ النَّاسِ؟ أَلَسْتُمَا مُسْلِمَيْنِ؟ " قَالَا: بَلَى ⦗٤٢٧⦘ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّا كُنَّا صَلَّيْنَا فِي رِحَالِنَا، فَقَالَ لَهُمَا: " إِذَا صَلَّيْتُمَا فِي رِحَالِكُمَا ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُمَا الْإِمَامَ فَصَلَّيَا مَعَهُ فَإِنَّهُمَا لَكُمَا نَافِلَةٌ ".
Jabir bin Yazid bin al-Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his father, who said: We prayed the Fajr prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at Mina. Two men came and stopped while still on their mounts. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that they be called. They came in a state of fright, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why did you not pray with the people? Are you not Muslims?" They said: Certainly, O Messenger of Allah! But we had already prayed at our lodgings. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Even if you have prayed in your lodgings, if you then find the congregation, pray with the congregation as well; it will be a voluntary prayer for you."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ عَلَى ابْنِ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرٌو، عَنْ بُكَيْرٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَفِيفَ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ يَقُولُ: حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَسَدِ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ قَالَ: يُصَلِّي أَحَدُنَا فِي مَنْزِلِهِ الصَّلَاةَ ثُمَّ يَأْتِي الْمَسْجِدَ وَتُقَامُ الصَّلَاةُ فَأُصَلِّي مَعَهُمْ فَأَجِدُ فِي نَفْسِي مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ: سَأَلْنَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: " ذَلِكَ لَهُ سَهْمُ جَمْعٍ ".
It is narrated from a man of Banu Asad bin Khuzaymah that he said: I asked Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him): If one of us prays in his house, then comes to the mosque and the prayer is being held there, should he pray with them as well? I feel some unease in my heart about it. Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: We asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about that, and he said: "For him there is a double reward."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الْمِهْرَجَانِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ حَفْصٍ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ثنا ابْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، ثنا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ عَفِيفِ بْنِ عُمَرَ السَّهْمِيِّ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدٍ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أُصَلِّي فِي بَيْتِي ثُمَّ آتِي الْمَسْجِدَ فَأَجِدُ الْإِمَامَ يُصَلِّي، فَأُصَلِّي مَعَهُ؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ: نَعَمْ مَنْ صَنَعَ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّ لَهُ سَهْمُ جَمْعٍ أَوْ مِثْلُ سَهْمِ جَمْعٍ ".
It is transmitted through another chain from a man of Banu Asad that he asked Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him): I pray in my house, then I come to the mosque and find the imam leading the prayer; should I pray with him? Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Yes, pray with him. Whoever does that has a double reward, or he said: a reward equal to that of the whole congregation.
