It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you is praying, let him not allow anyone to pass in front of him, and let him stop him as far as he can. If he insists on passing, then let him forbid him firmly, for he is only a devil."

Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Sa'id al-Khudri narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you prays, let him stand close to a sutrah (screen)," and then he related the hadith with the meaning of the previous one.

It is narrated from Humayd bin Hilal: A companion of mine and I were discussing a hadith when suddenly Abu Salih said: I will tell you a hadith that I heard from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) and also saw him act upon. Once we were praying the Friday prayer with Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) behind a sutrah (screen) when a man of the Abu Mu'ayt tribe came and began to pass in front of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), so he pushed him back. He looked here and there and saw no other way except in front of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). He turned back again and tried to pass, so he stopped him even more firmly. Then he stood up straight and spoke ill of Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), then pushed his way through the crowd of people and left. He complained to Marwan (Marwan was the governor of Madinah at that time). Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) went to Marwan, and Marwan said: What is the matter between you and your nephew? He has come complaining about you. Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever prays with a sutrah in front of him, and then someone tries to pass (in front of him), let him stop him from passing; if he does not desist, let him stop him firmly, for he is only a devil."

It is narrated from Abu Salih that Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) was praying when a man from the family of Abu Mu'ayt began to pass in front of him, so he stopped him. He refused to stop, so Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) pushed him; he still refused, so he struck him on the chest. In those days Marwan was the governor of Madinah. That man complained about him to Marwan, and Marwan mentioned the matter to Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you is praying and someone passes in front of him, let him stop him. If he refuses, let him fight him, for he is a devil." And I was stopping him, and he refused to stop.

Amr bin Shu'ayb (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him): We came down with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from the mountain pass of Adhakhir, and the time for prayer came. He (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed facing a wall, making it his sutrah. We were behind him (peace and blessings be upon him). Meanwhile a young goat came and began to pass in front of him, so he kept it back, until he (peace and blessings be upon him) pressed his stomach against the wall, and it passed behind him.
