The Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tell Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the people in prayer." I said: O Messenger of Allah, when Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stands in your place, he will not be able to make the people hear (the recitation) because of his weeping. Command Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the people in prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tell Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the people in prayer." Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I said to Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her): Tell the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that when Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stands in your place, he will not be able to make the people hear the recitation because of his abundant weeping, so command Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the people in prayer. Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) did so, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are just like the women of (the story of) Yusuf (peace be upon him). Tell Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the people in prayer." Then Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): I have never received any good from you.
