(a) Hamzah bin Abdullah narrates from his father: When his (peace and blessings be upon him) illness grew severe, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tell Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the people in prayer." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) is a tender-hearted man; when he stands in your (peace and blessings be upon him) place, he will not be able to make the people hear the recitation because of his weeping. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said again: "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." She repeated what she had said before, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are like the women of (the story of) Yusuf (peace be upon him). Tell Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the people in prayer."
(b) In Sahih Muslim it is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) is a tender-hearted man; when he recites the Qur'an he cannot control his tears.
