Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that they prayed with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Between the two prostrations he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "'Rabbighfir li, rabbighfir li' (O Allah, forgive me, O Allah, forgive me)", and he would make his sitting equal in length to his prostration.

(a) Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I spent the night at the house of my maternal aunt, the Mother of the Believers Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), and during the night the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) got up from his sleep. In this hadith it is also mentioned that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that when he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head from prostration he would recite: 'Rabbighfir li warhamni wajburni warfa'ni warzuqni wahdini' (O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me strength and power, raise me in rank, provide for me and enrich me with guidance), and then he would make the second prostration.
(b) It is reported from Zayd that in place of 'wajburni warfa'ni' he narrated the words 'wa 'afini' (O Allah, grant me well-being).

Sulayman al-Taymi said: It has reached me that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recite between the two prostrations: 'Rabbighfir li warhamni warfa'ni wajburni' (My Lord, forgive me, have mercy on me, raise me in rank and grant me strength and power).
Al-Harith al-A'war narrated the same from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), except that he reported the word 'wahdini' (guide me) in place of 'warfa'ni'.
