It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been commanded to prostrate on seven bones: on the forehead" and he (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed with his hand to his nose "and on the two hands, the knees and the edges of the feet, and that we should not tuck up our clothes or our hair." In the hadith of Mu'alla it is: "and that I should not tuck up my hair or my clothes."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been commanded to prostrate on seven limbs, and not to tuck up my hair or my clothes; and those seven are: the forehead, the nose, the two hands, the two knees and the two feet."
In Muslim's wording, the words 'la akfita' (I should not gather up) occur in place of 'la akuffa' (I should not tuck up).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the limbs on which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was commanded to prostrate are seven: "the two hands, the two knees, the edges of the toes and the forehead," and he was forbidden "to tuck up the clothes and the hair."
Sufyan says that Ibn Tawus added this: he placed his hand on his forehead, then passed it down over his nose until he brought it to the tip of his nose, and said: My father used to count this (whole) as one bone.

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) was commanded to prostrate on seven limbs and was forbidden" - in the narration of Ibn Tawus it is: "forbidden to tuck up his hair and his clothes," and the words of Amr's narration are: 'kaffu sha'rihi wa thiyabihi' (that he should not tuck up his hair and clothes).
Sufyan says that Ibn Tawus told that Tawus used to point with his hand to the forehead and the nose, and Ibn Tawus did so to demonstrate, and said: My father used to say that the nose and the forehead are one; the remaining six are the two hands, the two knees and the two feet.
Imam al-Bayhaqi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that in Sufyan's narration the mention of the nose is Tawus's explanation, while Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded the narration of Ibn Tawus in "Sahih Muslim" in abridged form, without the explanation.

Abu Qutaybah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated the narrations of Shu'bah and al-Thawri (may Allah have mercy on them both) with this meaning, each separately. No one but Abu Qutaybah narrated it with a connected chain from Sufyan and Shu'bah; the correct view is that it is a mursal narration from Asim from Ikrimah.

It is narrated from Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a man or a woman who was not putting the nose on the ground in prostration, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty does not accept a prayer in which a person's nose does not touch what his forehead touches."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: "When you prostrate, place your nose on the ground along with your forehead." In al-Saffar's hadith, in place of 'ma'a jabhatika' (along with your forehead) the words are 'thumma jabhataka', meaning "then place your forehead."

(a) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that whenever one of you prostrates, he must place his nose on the ground, for you have been commanded to do so.
(b) Likewise Sharik narrated this from Simak; and it is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Place your nose on the ground so that your nose too prostrates along with you."
(c) Imam Abu Isa al-Tirmidhi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: The narration of Ikrimah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in mursal form is more authentic.
