It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I am a woman who has prolonged bleeding (istihadah); I do not become pure. Shall I abandon the prayer? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, that is from a vein; it is not menstruation. When menstruation comes, abandon the prayer, and when it has gone, wash the blood off yourself and pray."

(a) The same as the previous narration is reported from Hisham (may Allah have mercy on him). (b) A very large group narrated it likewise from Hisham bin Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him), except that Hammad (may Allah have mercy on him) added the words about ablution in it, and Ibn Uyaynah (may Allah have mercy on him) added the ritual bath in it with doubt. (c) It is narrated from Hisham (may Allah have mercy on him): "When its duration has passed, wash the blood off yourself and pray."

(b) There is a difference in the text of this narration: he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, that is a vein; but abandon the prayer for as many days as you used to menstruate, then take a ritual bath and pray." (c) In the narration of Abu Usamah there is doubt.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have prolonged bleeding (istihadah); I do not become pure. Shall I abandon the prayer? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is from a vein; abandon the prayer during the days of your menstruation, then take a ritual bath and pray," or words to that effect.
(b) I think that both narrations are in the wording of Abu Usamah. It has also been narrated from Abu Usamah in the wording which a group narrated, that is, concerning the coming and going of menstruation.

(a) In the narration of Hisham bin Urwah: Shall I abandon the prayer? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is not menstruation; that is from a vein. When menstruation comes, abandon the prayer, and when it has gone, take a ritual bath and pray."
(b) This one is more likely to be the preserved version, because it agrees with the narration of the group, except that he said in it: "Take a ritual bath." (c) Ibn Uyaynah also narrated it with doubt. And Allah knows best.

It is narrated from Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) that Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh (may Allah be pleased with her) had prolonged bleeding (istihadah), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "The blood of menstruation is black and recognisable. When it is that, refrain from the prayer, and when it is the other, perform ablution and pray, for it is from a vein."

Urwah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyidah Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh (may Allah be pleased with her) that she had prolonged bleeding (istihadah), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "The blood of menstruation is black and recognisable. When it is that, refrain from the prayer, and when it is the other, perform ablution and pray, for it is a vein."

(a) Makhul (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Menstruation is not hidden from women; its blood is thick and deep black. When that goes and it becomes yellowish and thin, then it is prolonged bleeding (istihadah), so she should take a ritual bath and pray.
(b) The Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the meaning of what Makhul said is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) as a marfu' narration (attributed to the Prophet), but its chain is weak.
Hadith Referenceالسنن الكبرى للبيهقي / كتاب الحيض / 1553
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The blood of menstruation is black and thick, with redness over it, and the blood of prolonged bleeding (istihadah) is yellowish and thin. If it overwhelms her, she should put a pad of cotton in place, and if it overwhelms her still, she should put another fresh one over it. If it overwhelms her during the prayer, she should not break off the prayer, even if it drips. Her husband may come to her (that is, have intercourse with her), and she fasts and prays."
This Abd al-Malik is majhul (unknown), al-Ala' is Ibn Kathir, who is da'if (weak) in hadith, and Makhul did not hear anything from Abu Umamah. And Allah knows best.
