أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُزَنِيُّ، أنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، أنا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، أنا شُعَيْبٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ الصَّعْبَ بْنَ جَثَّامَةَ اللَّيْثِيَّ، وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُخْبِرُ أَنَّهُ أَهْدَى لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ بِالْأَبْوَاءِ أَوْ بِوَدَّانَ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُحْرِمٌ، فَرَدَّهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ الصَّعْبُ: فَلَمَّا عَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَدَّهُ هَدِيَّتِي فِي وَجْهِي، قَالَ: " لَيْسَ بِنَا رَدٌّ عَلَيْكَ وَلَكِنَّا حُرُمٌ " رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ أَبِي الْيَمَانِ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that he heard Sayyiduna Sa'b bin Jaththamah al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), relate that he gave the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a wild donkey as a gift at al-Abwa or Waddan while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the state of ihram, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned it. Sayyiduna Sa'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw in my face (the effect of) his returning my gift, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no rejection of you on our part; but we are in the state of ihram."
