Bayhaqi 9879 — The compensation for the hyena
أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ، أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا تَمْتَامٌ، ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، ثنا زِيَادُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ الْأَجْلَحِ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " فِي الضَّبُعِ كَبْشٌ، وَفِي الظَّبْيِ شَاةٌ، وَفِي الْأَرْنَبِ عَنَاقٌ، وَفِي الْيَرْبُوعِ جَفْرَةٌ " فَقُلْتُ: يَعْنِي لِأَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ: ومَا الْجَفْرَةُ؟ قَالَ: " الْعَظِيمُ " يَعْنِي عَظِيمَ الْحُمْلَانِ. تَابَعَهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ وَغَيْرُهُ، عَنِ الْأَجْلَحِ. هَكَذَا.
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "For a hyena there is a ram, for a gazelle a goat, for a hare a one-year-old young goat, and for a jerboa a jafrah (young goat)." I asked Abu al-Zubayr (may Allah have mercy on him): What is «al-jafrah»? He said: A plump, well-grown young of a goat or sheep.
