Sulayman bin Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) set out for Hajj, and when he was in the desert on the road to Makkah, his mount went missing. Then he came to Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) on the Day of Sacrifice and mentioned what had happened to him. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do as the one performing Umrah does, then you will have left ihram. If the Hajj reaches you the following year, then perform Hajj and offer whatever sacrificial animal is easily available.
