Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that "a Muslim be called a sarur (sarurah)." Sufyan bin Uyaynah narrated this from Amr, from Ikrimah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as mursal. Ibn Jurayj transmitted it as the saying of Ikrimah, and denied that it was the saying of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) or of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And in the narration of Ibn Uyaynah and others it is reported from Ikrimah that in the Jahiliyyah a man would slap another and say: I am sarurah (bound). Then it would be said about him: Leave him bound in his ignorance, even if he strikes his dung onto his own foot. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no sarurah (being bound) in Islam." In another narration: A man would strike his own face and then say: I am bound. Then it would be said: Leave his face bound, even if he drops his dung onto his own foot.
Nafi bin Jubayr, from (I think) his father, narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Umrah has entered into Hajj until the Day of Resurrection; there is no sarurah (being bound)."
Umar bin Qays, who narrated it from Amr bin Dinar as connected to Ibn Abbas, is not strong.
