Imam al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) said that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stoned the Jamrah that is next to the mosque of Mina, he would throw seven pebbles at it, saying the takbir every time he threw a pebble. Then he would go forward in front of it and stand facing the House (the Ka'bah), raising his hands and supplicating, and he would stand for a long time. Then he would come to the second Jamrah and throw seven pebbles at it, saying the takbir with every pebble, and he would move down to the left side, toward the valley, and there, facing the qiblah, he would raise his hands and supplicate. Then he would come to the Jamrah that is at al-Aqabah, throw seven pebbles at it, saying the takbir with every pebble, then he would leave and not stop by it.
In al-Zuhri's (may Allah have mercy on him) narration it is stated that Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) also used to do the same.
