Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us and said: "O people! Allah has made Hajj obligatory upon you." Al-Aqra' bin Habis (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Every year (is Hajj obligatory)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I were to say so, it (performing Hajj every year) would become obligatory, and if it became obligatory you would not do it, nor would you be able to. Hajj is (obligatory) once; whoever does more, it is voluntary."
In the hadith of Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both), Suraqah bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Is this benefit for us only this year, or forever? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Forever."
