Bayhaqi 838 — Splashing water into the eyes and putting a finger

When Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) took the ritual bath for janabah (major impurity), he would splash water into his eyes. (b) Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) says: This is not the practice. (c) Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Splashing water into the eyes is not required, because they are not an outer part of the body. (d) The Shaykh says: This narration has also been reported as marfu' (attributed to the Prophet), but its chain is not sahih (authentic).
