Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from his maternal aunt, Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her): I placed water for the bath of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) took the ritual bath for janabah (major impurity). He (peace and blessings be upon him) tipped the vessel with his left hand over his right hand and washed his palms three times, then poured water over his private part and washed it, then struck his hand on the ground or on the wall and rubbed it, then rinsed his mouth, sniffed water into his nose, washed his face and forearms, and poured water over his head, then poured water over his whole body. Then he moved away (from that place) and washed his feet. I brought him a cloth, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with his hand, meaning that he returned it.
In one narration it says: then he washed his whole body and did not wash the places of ablution again.
