Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) as a collector, and Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) did not give zakah. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) told the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) what Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) had said. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umar! Do you not know that a man's uncle is like his father? When we were in need, we would take two years' zakah from Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) in advance."
In one narration it says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took one or two years' zakah from Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) in advance.
There is a break (irsal) in this chain between Abu al-Bakhtari and Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
