Umm Ja'far said that Sayyidah Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), said: "O Asma'! I find very distasteful what is done with women: a cloth is thrown over the woman and it reveals her shape." Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Shall I not show you something I saw in the land of Abyssinia?" Then she called for fresh palm branches, bent them, and threw a cloth over them. Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "How fine and beautiful this is! By it a man can be distinguished from a woman. So when I die, you and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) should wash me, and do not let anyone come in to me." When she died, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) came to enter, and Asma' said: "Do not come in." So she complained to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) that this Khath'ami woman was coming between her and the daughter of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and had made for her something like a bride's howdah. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) came and stood at the door and said: "O Asma'! What has driven you to come between the daughter of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and to make something like a bride's howdah?" Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "She ordered me that no one should come in to her, and while she was alive I showed her this that I have made, and she told me: 'Do the same for me.'" Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then do what you were ordered." Then he left, and Sayyiduna Ali and Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with them both) washed her.
