وَقَدْ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو ذَرٍّ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ حَفَدَةُ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ الْمُذَكِّرِ، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الدَّرَابَجِرْدِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْمُقْرِئُ، ثنا هَمَّامٌ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ يَعْنِي ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، وَمَنْصُورٌ، وَزِيَادٌ، وَبَكْرٌ، كُلُّهُمْ ذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ: سَمِعَ مِنَ الزُّهْرِيِّ، أَنَّ سَالِمًا أَخْبَرَهُ: أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ رَأَى رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرَ، وَعُثْمَانَ: يَمْشُونَ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ الْجِنَازَةِ غَيْرَ أَنَّ بَكْرًا لَمْ يَذْكُرْ عُثْمَانَ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ هَمَّامُ وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ، وَاخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ عَلَى عَقِيلٍ، وَيُونُسَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، فَقِيلَ عَنْ كُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، مَوْصُولًا وَقِيلَ مُرْسَلًا وَمَنْ وَصَلَهُ وَاسْتَقَرَّ عَلَى وَصْلِهِ، وَلَمْ يُخْتَلَفْ عَلَيْهِ فِيهِ وَهُوَ سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ حُجَّةٌ ثِقَةٌ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ.
Imam al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Salim narrates from his father that he saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) walking in front of the funeral.
However, Bakr did not mention Uthman. Only Hammam narrated it (in this way), and he is thiqah (trustworthy). There is disagreement on Uqayl and Yunus bin Yazid about it: from each of them it is said to be from al-Zuhri connected (mawsul), and also mursal. The one who connected it, remained firm on connecting it, and about whom there is no disagreement on it, is Sufyan bin Uyaynah, who is a proof and trustworthy. And Allah knows best.
