وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ عِيسَى، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ نَجْدَةَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ، عَنْ قُطْبَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِذَا أَجْمَرْتُمُ الْمَيِّتَ فَأَوْتِرُوا " وَرُوِي " أَجْمِرُوا كَفَنَ الْمَيِّتِ ثَلَاثًا "..
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you fumigate the deceased with incense, do it an odd number of times." And it is also narrated: "Fumigate the shroud of the deceased three times."
