أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، أنبأ أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ قَالَ: أنبأ هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ: " لَمَّا انْصَرَفَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ جَلَسَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَاحِيَةً وَجَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ تَؤُمُّ الْقَتْلَى، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " الْمَرْأَةَ الْمَرْأَةَ " فَلَمَّا تَوَسَّمْتُهَا فَإِذَا هِيَ أُمِّي صَفِيَّةُ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا أُمَّهْ، ارْجِعِي، فَلَدَمَتْ فِي صَدْرِي وَقَالَتْ: لَا أَرْضَ لَكَ، فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعْزِمُ عَلَيْكِ قَالَ: فَأَعْطَتْنِي ثَوْبَيْنِ، فَقَالَتْ: كَفِّنُوا فِي هَذَيْنِ أَخِي، قَالَ: فَوَجَدْنَا إِلَى جَنْبِ حَمْزَةَ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ لَيْسَ لَهُ كَفَنٌ، فَوَجَدْنَا فِي أَنْفُسِنَا غَضَاضَةً أَنْ نُكَفِّنَ حَمْزَةَ فِي ثَوْبَيْنِ وَالْأَنْصَارِيُّ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ لَيْسَ لَهُ كَفَنٌ، قَالَ: فَأَقْرَعْنَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِي أَجْوَدِ الثَّوْبَيْنِ فَكَفَّنَّا كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا فِي الثَّوْبِ الَّذِي طَارَ لَهُ ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Uhud, when the polytheists turned back, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down to one side. Meanwhile a woman came, looking over the slain, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The woman! The woman!" When I looked at her closely, it was my mother, Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her). I said: "Mother, go back." She struck me on my chest and said: 'La arda lak' (may you have no land). I said: "The beloved Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) insists that you (go back)." He said: Then she gave me two garments and said: Shroud my brother in these. Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Beside Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) we saw the body of a Companion from the Ansar (may Allah be pleased with him) who had no shroud. We felt some unease in our hearts that we should shroud Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) in two garments while the Ansari beside him had no shroud. Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We cast lots between the two of them for the better of the two garments, then we shrouded each of them in the garment that fell to his share.
