(a) Hisham bin Urwah narrates from his father, from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): The sun was eclipsed in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to pray. He (peace and blessings be upon him) prolonged the standing, then bowed and prolonged the bowing as well. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head from the bowing. Then he stood for a long time, somewhat less than the first standing. Then he bowed and prolonged the bowing, but it was less than the first bowing. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood for a long time, but this was less than the first standing. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed a long bowing, but this was less than the first bowing. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head from the bowing and stood for a long time, somewhat less than the first standing. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed a long bowing, but it was somewhat less than the first bowing. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated, and the sun became bright. He (peace and blessings be upon him) praised and extolled Allah. Then he said: "The sun and the moon do not lose their light for anyone's death or life; rather, they are both signs of Allah. When you see them (eclipsed), pray, give charity, remember Allah and supplicate." Then he said: "O Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! By Allah, none of you is more jealous (ghayur) than Allah that His male servant or His female servant should commit fornication. O Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! By Allah, if you knew what I know, you would weep much and laugh little." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised both his hands and said: "Listen! Have I not conveyed?"
(b) Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The sun was eclipsed in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to pray.
