أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ زَكَرِيَّا الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْمُقْرِئُ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ، عَنْ أَبِي رِفَاعَةَ الْعَدَوِيِّ قَالَ: انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ رَجُلٌ غَرِيبٌ جَاءَ يَسْأَلُ عَنْ دِينِهِ لَا يَدْرِي مَا دِينُهُ، " فَأَقْبَلَ إِلَيَّ وَتَرَكَ خُطْبَتَهُ فَأُتِيَ بِكُرْسِيٍّ خَلَتْ قَوَائِمُهُ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ، فَجَعَلَ يُعَلِّمُنِي مِمَّا عَلَّمَهُ اللهُ، ثُمَّ أَتَى خُطْبَتَهُ وَأَتَمَّ آخِرَهَا ".
Abu Rifa'ah al-Adawi (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon. I said: O Messenger of Allah! A stranger has come; he is asking about the religion, and he does not know what the religion is. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards me and left his sermon. A chair was brought; I think its legs were of iron. He (peace and blessings be upon him) began teaching me what Allah had taught him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) completed the sermon.
