Iyad bin Abdullah says that I saw Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him); he came while Marwan was delivering the sermon. Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and prayed two rak'ahs, and the royal guards came to him to make him sit down. He refused until he had performed the two rak'ahs. When we had completed the prayer, we came to him and said: O Abu Sa'id! They were about to harm you. He said: I will never abandon what I saw from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man entered the mosque in a shabby state while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Have you prayed?" He said: No. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray two rak'ahs." The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) urged the people to give charity, and they threw down garments, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the man two garments from them. When it was the following Friday, a man came while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Have you prayed?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray two rak'ahs." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) urged the people to give charity, and that man gave away one of his two garments. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called out loudly: "Take it." So he took it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Look at this man. He came last Friday in a shabby state, so I told the people to give charity. The people gave garments, and I gave him two garments from them. He came this Friday, and I ordered the people to give charity, and he gave one of those two garments in charity."
