أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ حَيَّانَ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو عَامِرٍ مُوسَى بْنُ عَامِرٍ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ اللَّيْثَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ، فَقَالَ: " كُلُّ مَدِينَةٍ أَوْ قَرْيَةٍ فِيهَا جَمَاعَةٌ وَعَلَيْهِمْ أَمِيرٌ أُمِرُوا بِالْجُمُعَةِ فَلْيُجَمِّعْ بِهِمْ. فَإِنَّ أَهْلَ الْإِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةِ وَمَدَائِنَ مِصْرَ، وَمَدَائِنَ سَوَاحِلِهَا كَانُوا يُجَمِّعُونَ الْجُمُعَةَ عَلَى عَهْدِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ وَعُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا بِأَمْرِهِمَا، وَفِيهَا رِجَالٌ مِنَ الصَّحَابَةِ ".
Al-Walid bin Muslim said: I asked al-Layth bin Sa'd about this, and he said: Any city or village in which there is a congregation and over which there is an amir, he should command them to the Friday prayer and lead them in it. For the people of Alexandria, the cities of Egypt and its coastal towns used to pray the Friday prayer in the time of Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), by their command, and among them lived Companions (may Allah be pleased with them).
