أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نَصْرِ بْنُ قَتَادَةَ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مَنْصُورٍ النَّضْرَوِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ نَجْدَةَ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي السَّفَرِ قَالَ: قَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ: " إِنَّا قَوْمٌ أُوتِينَا الْإِيمَانَ قَبْلَ أَنْ نُؤْتَى الْقُرْآنَ، وَإِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ أُوتِيتُمُ الْقُرْآنَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُؤْتَوَا الْإِيمَانَ ".
Abu al-Safar says that Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: We were given faith before the Qur'an, and you are a people to whom the Qur'an is given first and who acquire faith afterwards.
