Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla narrates from Sayyiduna Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), there are many harmful creatures and wild beasts in Madinah." He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you hear 'Hayya 'ala al-salah, hayya 'ala al-falah' (Come to the prayer, come to success)? Then come to the prayer."
Note: Abu Bakr bin Ishaq the jurist said: In his ordering this blind man to attend the congregation there is nothing to indicate that attending it is obligatory, because he (peace and blessings be upon him) granted Itban bin Malik, who was blind, a concession to stay away from attending it. This indicates that his saying "I do not find a concession for you" means: I do not find for you a concession by which you would attain the virtue of the one who attends it.
