أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ فُورَكٍ، أنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْزَلَهُمْ فِي قُبَّةٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ؛ لِيَكُونَ أَرَقَّ لِقُلُوبِهِمْ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فِي اشْتِرَاطِهِمْ حِينَ أَسْلَمُوا وَرَوَاهُ أَشْعَثُ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ مُرْسَلًا بِبَعْضِ مَعْنَاهُ، زَادَ فَقِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَنْزَلْتَهُمْ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَهُمْ مُشْرِكُونَ؟ فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ الْأَرْضَ لَا تَنْجَسُ إِنَّمَا يَنْجَسُ ابْنُ آدَمَ ".
Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) lodged Banu Thaqif in a tent in the mosque so that it would soften their hearts more. Then he mentioned the hadith about the conditions they set when they accepted Islam.
(b) Ash'ath narrated it from al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) in mursal form with part of its meaning, and added: It was said: O Messenger of Allah, you have lodged them in the mosque while they are polytheists? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The son of Adam becomes impure; the earth does not become impure."
