Bayhaqi 3049 — The imam moves from his place when he wants to pray

(a) Abbad bin Abdullah narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) saying that the Sunnah way is that when the imam gives the salam, he should not stand up in his place to offer voluntary prayer; rather, he should turn aside and move, or speak or the like.
(b) Al-Thawri (may Allah have mercy on him) also narrated this report, but in it he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It is not right for the imam to do so. In one narration: It does not befit the imam.
(c) And it has been narrated to us on the authority of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this that the imam should move a little forward or back, or speak with someone.
