Abu al-Zubayr narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man of Banu Udhrah freed his slave as a mudabbar. This news reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have any other wealth?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who will buy him from me?" Nu'aym bin Abdullah al-Adawi (may Allah be pleased with him) bought him for 800 dirhams. He brought the price to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave it back to him and said: "Begin by spending in charity on yourself; if anything is left over, then on your family; if anything is still left over, then on your near relatives; and if anything is still left over, then to the right and left, on whomever your heart wishes."
