Chapter: A man who sings and makes singing a profession, people come to him for it and he goes to them for it, and he is known and famous for it, or a woman who does so

أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بِشْرَانَ، أنبأ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ صَفْوَانَ، ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي الدُّنْيَا، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: {وَأَنْتُمْ سَامِدُونَ} [النجم: ٦١] قَالَ: " هُوَ الْغِنَاءُ بِالْحِمْيَرِيَّةِ، اسْمَدِي لَنَا، تَغَنَّيْ لَنَا ".
Ikrimah narrates from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning "while you amuse yourselves (samidun)" [Surah al-Najm: 61]; he said: What is meant by it is singing.
