قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ، أنبأ شَرِيكٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، قَالَ: قَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: " صَاحِبُ الشِّطْرَنْجِ أَكْذَبُ النَّاسِ، يَقُولُ أَحَدُهُمْ: قَتَلْتُ، وَمَا قَتَلَ ".
Al-Hakam (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The chess player is the greatest liar among people; he says, 'I have killed,' though he has not killed.
