Bayhaqi 20813 — A brief account of noble and lofty character traits

Habib al-Tamimi narrates that Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked a man from Abd al-Qays: "What do you count as muru'ah (honourable conduct)?" He said: "We count it as (having) a trade and chastity."
(b) It is narrated from Abu Sawwar that Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: What is muru'ah? He said: Chastity in religion and putting one's livelihood in order.
